What tools do I need to activate a GREASOMATIC?
None. Simply follow the 3 easy steps Turn--Push--Turn as
described more completely on the Activation page.
What lubricant comes in the GREASOMATIC?
| We can fill to your specifications. We
have tested many greases in single point lubricators and found that while
most work very well some have a tendency to separate under the constant,
low pressure of the unit. There is no problem with oil. The
manufacturer has developed Grease L, a multipurpose
EP grease,
specifically for use in the GREASOMATIC. Contact us with questions
regarding specific lubricants. |
How much grease does a GREASOMATIC contain?
| 120 ml or
approximately 4 ounces of lubricant. Put another way, the GREASOMATIC contains the equivalent of approximately 96 strokes out of a standard grease gun. |
Can you refill a GREASOMATIC?
| No. GREASOMATICS are disposable.
When it is time to replace the unit, you simply remove it from its fitting and
dispose of it according to local regulations. This
eliminates the expensive and time consuming job of removing, refurbishing and
re-installing used lubricators. |
How can you tell how much lubricant is in the GREASOMATIC ?
| You can monitor the lubricant status at a
glance through any one of the three windows in the transparent body of the
lubricator. In addition, the GREASOMATIC has a patented relief valve. When a bearing or line is blocked
the relief valve opens releasing lubricant.
This is a valuable warning tool which alerts maintenance personnel that
lubricant is not reaching the bearing. |
Can I remotely install the GREASOMATIC?
| Absolutely. It is always best to
install the lubricator directly on the bearing or as close to it as
possible but it can be installed in a more practical location if necessary. The remote line must have a minimum ID of
1/4" with 3/8" recommended and the maximum distance from the
bearing should
be no greater than 6 feet. Grease filled GREASOMATIC units can be installed
in any position, even under water. Oil filled lubricators must be installed with
the outlet in an upright position or require a check valve to avoid loss of the
liquid. Two or more lubricators can be installed to lube one bearing,
but one GREASOMATIC should never be used to grease more than one bearing. |
Will the GREASOMATIC rust?
| No. The body of the GREASOMATIC is made of a
sturdy, tamper resistant plastic. In addition to being rust proof, the
translucent plastic body permits you to
see into the lubricant reservoir to easily monitor the lubricant flow. |
After I activate a GREASOMATIC how soon can I install it?
| Since the GREASOMATIC operates on a chemical
principle, it takes time for sufficient pressure to be generated to move the grease
. As a rule of thumb, the higher the number of the dial
setting (the longer time period) the more time it takes to generate the needed pressure. A simple way to handle this situation is to activate the
lubricators in advance of the planned installation so that the lubricant flow
has begun. |
Why is the GREASOMATIC temperature sensitive?
| All chemically pressurized single point lubricators
are sensitive to the average ambient temperature. In
all chemical reactions as the temperature rises the reaction goes faster and as the
ambient temperature lowers the reaction goes slower. It is a simple matter to
adjust the dial setting to compensate for the variations in ambient
temperature. See the Discharge Rate Chart for help
on dial setting selection or contact us. |
